Covering a total area of around 430 acres, JXUST has 5 campuses in Ganzhou and Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. The main campus is seated in Ganzhou, a historically rich and culturally vibrant city which is widely known as the World Capital of Tungsten, the Kingdom of Rare Earths, the Cradle of Hakka people, and the Birthplace of the Chinese Community Revolution.
JXUST now offers a wide range of courses, including 2 doctoral-degree programs (mining engineering, metallurgical engineering), 44 master degree programs and 73 undergraduate programs. Authorized by the Ministry of Education, the university is entitled to enroll students from outside of Chinese Mainland. With this array of academic programs, 24,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 postgraduate students are enrolled in the university’s 18 schools and 18 scientific research centers. Known for their skill at adapting to work scenarios, team spirit, and diligence, the bright graduates of JXUST have long been popular in the competitive job market, the student employment rate reaching the top 50 among the 2,000-plus higher education institutions in China.
With a faculty of around 2,000, JXUST provides top quality lectures and classes taught by nationally renowned educators, as well as competitive scientific research teams based in many state-level key laboratories as well as engineering and technological research centers. This highly accomplished faculty and competency in scientific research creates a favorable learning environment for students. The university has established a set of highly competitive undergraduate and graduate programs, including Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Material Engineering, and Technology and Economic Management. The facilities for research in the fields of tungsten, copper, rare earth and lithium battery are currently at the leading edge of scientific research within China. These facilities are responsible for over 2,000 research projects and, in recent years, have been awarded more than 80 national, ministerial, and provincial awards. The total research fund of the past five years reached above 1 billion RMB.
Founded in 1958, JXUST is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and Jiangxi Provincial Government. Throughout its history, JXUST has actively adapted to the trend of international education development. With the spirit of "embracing all the streams of culture in the pursuit of excellence", JXUST is encouraging an open education by actively strengthening communication and cooperation with academic institutions across the world. Today, JXUST has established long-term and wide-ranging academic exchange programs with universities, enterprise groups, and scientific research institutions from more than 20 countries, including America, Canada, Germany, the UK, Australia, Russia and Thailand. JXUST is a qualified host university for international students, attracting students from all over the world to pursue degree or non-degree education. As part of this, the university has long been committed to promoting Chinese language and culture in the international community. Approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), JXUST has established a Confucius Institute at University of the Panjab, Pakistan; having been approved by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in 2011, the Chinese Education Base (CEB) of JXUST is the only one of its kind hosted by a science and technology university. Furthermore, delegations and scholars of JXUST have been sent overseas for language courses and teacher training, and the university conducts international exchanges with such universities and enterprises focused on international science and technology projects.
