Zhou Hepeng, an associate professor and deputy director of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology’s (JXUST) Yichun Lithium Battery New Energy Industrial Research Institute, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 New Era Youth Pioneer Award by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation.
A dedicated researcher and educator, Dr. Zhou has focused on advancing sustainable mineral resource development and lithium battery technologies. His work bridges academic innovation and industrial application, addressing critical challenges in mineral processing and environmental sustainability. Notably, he led groundbreaking projects in high-altitude mining regions, including a 46-day expedition at the 3,500-meter-high Golmud Lead-Zinc Mine in Qinghai to optimize flotation technology, and a 28-day research campaign at Tibet’s 4,500-meter Yulong Copper Mine to develop energy-efficient mineral processing methods.
Dr. Zhou’s research has driven technological upgrades in over 20 major non-ferrous metal mines nationwide, contributing to safer and more efficient resource extraction. His portfolio includes leadership roles in 20+ national-level research initiatives, 80+ peer-reviewed publications, and 34 authorized patents. His achievements have earned him 11 provincial and ministerial-level awards, including the Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress First Prize and the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Science and Technology First Prize.
A recipient of Jiangxi’s “Youth Jinggang Scholar” and “New Era Ganpo Pioneer” honors, Dr. Zhou exemplifies the spirit of integrating scientific rigor with real-world impact. His work underscores JXUST’s commitment to fostering innovation that supports national strategic goals in critical industries.
