Emergency Management Micro-Credential Wins National Pilot Nod for Blending Standardization into the Curriculum

Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has been selected for a first-of-its-kind national pilot program that weaves standardization education directly into professional degree studies. On April 21, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Ministry of Education jointly released a list of 281 pilot projects across 253 higher-education institutions. The university’s micro-credential in emergency management made the cut — and it stands as the only pilot in the country built on a full undergraduate emergency management program.

The initiative is the two agencies’ first nationwide effort to fuse professional training with standardization know-how. The goal is an institutional mechanism that organically links the two, nurturing a cohort of graduates who possess both deep domain knowledge and a firm command of standardization skills — exactly the kind of compound talent that fast-evolving industries need. Participating schools were chosen for their solid standardization teaching facilities, strong faculty, distinctive disciplinary strengths and clear motivation to innovate.

The university’s emergency management degree was among the very first approved in China and remains the first of its kind in Jiangxi Province. In recent years, the school has carved out a sharp identity in emergency and safety talent development, amassing mature educational models and rich hands-on experience through close industry partnerships and integrated research and teaching.

The pilot is being run jointly with the China National Institute of Standardization and the Jiangxi Academy of Emergency Management Science. With the green light now in hand, the university will refine its implementation roadmap, bolster staffing, course design, teaching materials and practice-based instruction, and move quickly into delivery. Beyond meeting the pilot’s formal requirements, it aims to forge a transferable model — one that can help supply higher-caliber professionals to the modernization of China’s emergency management system.
