The Jiangxi Provincial Government announced the winners of the 2024 Science and Technology Awards today, with JXUST securing a total of 9 awards — 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes, and 1 Youth Award — underscoring the leading position in scientific research and innovation across the province. This year also marks the tenth consecutive year that our researchers have received first prizes, reflecting our sustained excellence and robust capabilities in science and technology.
Notably, the project “Vacuum Continuous Casting and Intelligent Preparation of Copper Rod-Wire-Filament Materials and Equipment,” led by Professor Yang Bin, was awarded the First Prize in Technological Invention — a landmark achievement as our university’s first provincial top honor in this category. Professor Wu Caibin’s project on “High-Strength, High-Hardness, Low-Wear Nanoceramic Grinding Technology and Its Industrial Application” received the First Prize in Scientific and Technological Progress. Additionally, Associate Professor Cao Caifang contributed to another First Prize in Scientific and Technological Progress for the project “Key Technology and Industrialization of Low-Carbon Disposal and Value-Added Use of Waste Catalysts.”
The university also claimed five Second Prizes and one Youth Award. This year was the first time the Youth Award was presented in Jiangxi, with only 10 recipients province-wide. Professor Zhou Hepeng from our institution was among the distinguished honorees.
These accolades not only affirm the relentless efforts of our research teams and young innovators but also signal significant breakthroughs in our core strengths such as advanced materials, intelligent mining, green metallurgy, and smart manufacturing. They further demonstrate our leading role in original and cutting-edge research within rare earth and critical mineral sectors — providing vital momentum for Jiangxi’s trillion-yuan critical minerals industry.
Building on this achievement, our university will continue to align with national strategies and local development needs. We are committed to improving the scientific evaluation mechanism, strengthening the innovation system, deepening industry-university-research collaboration, and inspiring our researchers to reach new heights. Through these efforts, we aim to produce more high-quality scientific outcomes and enhance our dynamic innovation capacity, supporting our vision of becoming a first-class university in rare earth and critical mineral studies while contributing “GRIM Wisdom” to the high-quality, leapfrog development of Jiangxi’s nonferrous metals industry.
