On December 18, the 2025 Academic Committee Meeting of the Jiangxi Key Laboratory on River Headwater Ecological Protection was held in Ganzhou. The event was organized by the laboratory and hosted by the School of Civil and Surveying Engineering of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology.
Attendees included over 20 experts and scholars such as Academician Yang Chunhe from the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Luo Sihai (Party Secretary of Nanchang University), Professor Liu Zuwen (Party Secretary of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology), Professor Liang Heng of Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Hu Qiwu of Jiangxi Normal University, Professor Niu Jingtai of Jiangxi University of Water Resources and Electric Power, and Senior Engineer Ou Jiacai from China Rare Earth Group. The meeting was chaired by Professor Zhu Yichun, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology.
Professor Liu Zuwen delivered the opening address, extending a warm welcome to the participants and emphasizing the laboratory’s critical role in advancing water ecological protection and green development in Jiangxi. He announced the list of the second Academic Committee and presented appointment letters to its newly appointed members. Academician Yang Chunhe was appointed as the committee’s chair, with eight other experts, including Professor Luo Sihai, serving as members, providing substantial intellectual support for the laboratory’s academic development.
Professor Wang Guanshi, Director of the Key Laboratory and Executive Vice Dean of the School of Civil and Surveying Engineering, presented the laboratory’s 2025 work summary and 2026 plan. He highlighted that in 2025, the laboratory focused on core areas of river headwater ecological protection, achieving several notable outcomes in key technological research. For 2026, the laboratory will prioritize scientific tasks in water ecological restoration, pollution control, and the synergy between resource development and ecological conservation, promoting deeper integration of industry, academia, and research.
The Academic Committee commended the laboratory’s achievements in 2025 and unanimously approved its 2026 plan and key research tasks. It also offered strategic recommendations: first, to conduct organized research aligned with Jiangxi’s industrial development plan and the university’s disciplinary strengths; second, to enhance the application of AI technology by constructing databases for water ecology, pollution, and resource development, and developing specialized intelligent models to establish a technological framework for smart development of rare earth and critical minerals as well as intelligent prevention and control of watershed environments; third, to strengthen university-enterprise collaboration to accelerate the translation of research outcomes, thereby supporting local ecological protection and high-quality industrial development.
Following the committee meeting, Professor Hu Qiwu, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Wetland and Watershed Research at Jiangxi Normal University, and Senior Engineer Ou Jiacai, Deputy General Manager of the National Engineering Research Center for Efficient Development and Utilization of Ion-Adsorbed Rare Earth Resources, delivered thematic academic reports. They shared cutting-edge achievements and practical experiences in wetland ecological protection, rare earth resource development, and environmental management, offering attendees an insightful academic exchange.
