The Fifth China (Ganzhou) Permanent Magnet Motor Industry Innovation and Development Conference opened on May 20 at the International Conference and Exchange Center of the Ganjiang Innovation Academy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Ganzhou’s Ganxian District. Organised under the theme “China’s Rare-Earth Valley, Driving with Permanent Magnet Motors,” the event was co-hosted by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (JXUST). Vice President Wang Hang delivered a speech on behalf of the university and moderated the academician lectures and project roadshow sessions.
Qin Yi, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government, addressed the conference. Ganzhou Mayor Qi Haiyun, Li Bo, President of the Chinese Society of Rare Earths, and Wan Yinhua, President of the Ganjiang Innovation Academy, also delivered remarks. More than 500 participants — including academicians, industry leaders, company executives and representatives from research institutes and universities across the permanent magnet motor and rare-earth sectors — gathered to explore pathways for industrial upgrading and innovation.
Wang Hang noted that since its launch in 2022, the conference has made Ganzhou its permanent home. Over four editions, it has grown into a hub for academic exchange, a platform for resource sharing and a bridge for collaboration. By convening stakeholders from government, industry, academia, research and end-users, the event tackles technological bottlenecks, advances industrial coordination and speeds the commercialisation of research — a practical step aligned with China’s “dual carbon” goals and manufacturing powerhouse strategy, while also unlocking the value of rare earths, fostering new quality productive forces and promoting high-quality regional development.
Academician Li Jun of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow Zhu Ziqiang of the Royal Academy of Engineering and several other leading experts later delivered forward-looking reports. The conference also featured project signings, an exhibition of cutting-edge permanent magnet motor technologies and an industry innovation forum.
JXUST has long drawn on its core strengths in rare earths, metallurgy and materials to serve the rare-earth industry. Co-hosting the high-profile conference highlights the university’s deepening integration into regional economic development, its commitment to national strategies and its advancement of industry-university-research collaboration. The university plans to intensify cooperation with platforms such as the Ganjiang Innovation Academy, channelling talent, research and disciplinary expertise to meet the needs of the rare-earth permanent magnet sector, accelerate the translation of scientific breakthroughs into new quality productive forces, and contribute JXUST’s wisdom and capabilities to high-quality regional growth.
