Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (JXUST) convened the third general assembly of its alumni association on May 24, drawing more than 180 representatives to the library auditorium of the Sanjiang campus. University Party Secretary Liu Zuwen, incoming alumni council chair and Executive Vice President Xu Zhifeng, outgoing council chair Wen Herui, and other senior leaders attended the meeting, which was presided over by Vice President Dong Bingyan.

In his address, Liu Zuwen credited alumni for their enduring role in the university’s progress. “Our alumni have never wavered in their devotion to their alma mater,” he said. “Through counsel, connections and concrete support, they have injected real momentum into the university’s development.” Regional alumni networks, he added, have grown into vital bridges linking the university with industries and communities.

Liu outlined the university’s accelerating transformation. JXUST has set its sights on becoming a world-class institution in rare earths and critical minerals, rolling out a broad reform agenda that includes the “12345” strengthening and innovation initiative, the restructuring of academic and administrative divisions, the creation of three centers of excellence in rare-earth and critical-mineral fields, and the reorganization of seven academic divisions. “We are on a fast track,” he said. To harness alumni power, the university is advancing four flagship projects: boosting alumni engagement, empowering professional growth, building the alumni brand, and setting a benchmark among social organizations. An intelligent alumni information platform and dedicated homecoming events are also in the pipeline.

Outgoing chair Wen Herui presented the second council’s work report, charting five years of progress under the same four flagship initiatives. He described an alumni network that has become more structured, more collaborative and more impactful, and expressed hope that the new council would build on these foundations.

Delegates approved the work report, the financial report and the election procedures, then elected the third council. At its first meeting, the new council chose its standing committee and leadership, endorsed the appointments of honorary presidents and deputy secretaries-general, and adopted a set of governance documents, further professionalizing the association’s operations. Liu Zuwen presented certificates of honour to departing council leaders and handed appointment letters to the new team.

Taking office as the third council chair, Xu Zhifeng set out three priorities. First, to entrench the idea of an “alumni-university community of shared development” by instituting an alumni honours system and fostering a culture of mutual support. Second, to build a signature “Rare Earth and Critical Minerals Alumni Economic Circle” — a hub for industry intelligence, innovation resources and mutually beneficial partnerships. Third, to create a globally connected, vertically coordinated and highly efficient alumni network that optimizes the flow of resources across regions.

In breakout sessions, participants exchanged ideas on strengthening alumni organizations, empowering fellow graduates and channelling alumni contributions toward the university’s world-class ambitions. The conference also marked the official launch of the JXUST Alumni Development Fund, a new vehicle designed to unite alumni, support education and spur shared prosperity.
