BEIJING, Nov. 15, 2024 — Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (JXUST) has signed an agreement on Joint Programmes in International Chinese Education with Punjab University of Pakistan and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation at the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference in Beijing.
The conference, organized by China’s Ministry of Education, took place from November 15-17 at Beijing’s National Convention Center. Han Zheng, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a speech and read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping. Han emphasized Xi’s strong commitment to international Chinese education and his repeated encouragement for overseas Chinese learners to serve as ambassadors of cultural exchange and people-to-people friendship between China and other countries.
The conference attracted more than 2,000 participants from over 160 countries, including government officials, university leaders, and directors of Confucius Institutes. Yang Bin, Party Secretary of JXUST, and Sobia Khurram, the full-time representative of Punjab University, the university's foreign partner in the Confucius Institute, were invited to attend the opening ceremony.
Under the agreement, students will spend two years studying at the Confucius Institute at Punjab University and then transfer to JXUST for their final two years, subject to mid-term evaluation. The program will offer scholarships for students, provided by China’s Ministry of Education’s Language Education Center.
The program aims to immerse students in the Chinese language and culture, improving their language proficiency and fostering cross-cultural understanding. The first cohort of students will begin their studies in 2025, with the transfer to China scheduled for 2027.
