On March 25, a delegation led by Mr. Jerry Wang, Director of Enrollment and International Student Office at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada, visited Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (JXUST). The delegation was warmly received by Yang Bin, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Liao Chunfa, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening educational international cooperation and expanding global exchanges. Representatives from JXUST’s International Exchange and Cooperation Center, School of Metallurgical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, and other relevant departments and faculties participated in the meetings.
Secretary Yang Bin emphasized that JXUST has consistently adhered to an open education philosophy, prioritizing collaboration with overseas institutions. In recent years, the university has achieved notable progress in talent development, scientific innovation, and international joint projects. He expressed hope to further advance dual-degree programs with UPEI and explore new models for faculty and student exchanges, thereby building a higher-level international platform for academic cooperation.
During the symposium, both parties reflected on their long-standing partnership and shared aspirations for future collaboration. Vice President Liao Chunfa highlighted JXUST’s developmental milestones, distinctive educational features, and accomplishments in international engagement. He proposed expanding cooperation beyond joint programs to include international scientific research partnerships and faculty exchange initiatives, aiming for breakthroughs in these areas.
Cai Jinbao, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Center, reviewed the fruitful outcomes of the decade-long collaboration between the two universities. He outlined plans to jointly apply for Sino-foreign cooperative education programs and explore the establishment of a collaborative educational institution, leveraging shared resources and complementary strengths to elevate global educational standards.
Mr. Jerry Wang spoke highly of JXUST’s academic achievements and international reputation. He underscored UPEI’s commitment to strengthening ties with JXUST and expressed eagerness to deepen cooperation in student exchanges, faculty visits, and joint research. He also extended a warm invitation to JXUST students and scholars to study or conduct research at UPEI.
In the afternoon, Mr. Wang held a friendly discussion with JXUST student representatives, addressing inquiries about study abroad applications, academic programs, and campus life. He encouraged students to broaden their global perspectives and strive to become outstanding talents with international competitiveness.
Following the meetings, the delegation toured the JXUST History Museum, Innovation and Technology Exhibition Hall, and Library, where they praised the university’s rich cultural heritage, cutting-edge research facilities, and extensive academic resources.
The visit has further deepened mutual understanding and friendship between the two institutions, laying a solid foundation for future pragmatic cooperation. Prior to the meetings, the universities renewed their joint dual-degree program agreement and signed a new faculty and student exchange agreement.
This engagement marks a significant step forward in advancing the internationalization strategies of both JXUST and UPEI.
