On the morning of July 16, the opening ceremony of TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other languages) Seminar was held in the multifunctional hall of Sanjiang Campus, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (JXUST). Co-organized by the Center for Chinese Language Education Development and JXUST, the event brought together 56 Chinese teachers from 17 countries, including Myanmar, the U.S., Spain, Vietnam, and Australia, marking the beginning of a 14-day immersive learning journey in Ganzhou, Jiangxi.
As the first Chinese Education Base in Jiangxi designated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, JXUST proudly hosted this landmark event. The ceremony began with an introductory video showcasing the profound cultural heritage of Jiangxi Province, the charm of Ganzhou City, and the academic excellence of the university. Meticulously designed with a rich curriculum and supported by dedicated volunteers, the seminar aims to offer participants not only knowledge and friendship but also a deep appreciation of China’s history and culture. Through this exchange, the program seeks to enhance the quality of overseas Chinese education and promote mutual understanding between China and the world.
Ms. Liao Shanman, President of the Chinese Teachers Association of New Jersey and Director of Huaxia Southern Chinese School, spoke on behalf of the participants. Quoting the JXUST motto, “vision and action,” she praised the collective spirit of overseas Chinese educators in upholding these values across cultures. She also expressed great interest in China’s advancements in AI and digital innovation, hoping to explore how technology—such as augmented reality—can bring traditional culture to life in the classroom while preserving the humanistic warmth of Chinese language education in the age of artificial intelligence.
The seminar’s curriculum covers a wide range of practical and theoretical modules, including Chinese language teaching methodologies, cultural studies, and classroom management. “The road of Chinese language education is long and challenging,” said Ms. Liao, “but with passion and perseverance, we can open doors for learners worldwide and allow the brilliance of Chinese culture to shine on the global stage.”
Designed with both professionalism and vision, the seminar reflects a shared commitment to cultural exchange and the future of Chinese education overseas.
