Two academic journals published by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (JXUST) have been included in the 2025 edition of the World Journal Clout Index (WJCI) Report, a globally recognized benchmark compiled by six leading Chinese institutions including the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China and Tsinghua University Library. The selection underscores the university's growing influence in its specialized fields of rare earth and key mineral engineering.
Both publications—Tungsten and Nonferrous Metals Science and Engineering—secured their positions in the latest report with significantly improved rankings and journal quartiles.
Tungsten, the university's English-language journal, delivered a standout performance by being named a "Top Chinese Journal"—a distinction conferred on only 98 of the country's thousands of academic periodicals. In the latest rankings, the journal placed 4th globally among 81 publications in metallurgical engineering and 4th among 91 in metals science, securing a Q1 ranking in both disciplines. This represents a notable climb of 12 places in the metallurgical engineering category from the previous year.
Nonferrous Metals Science and Engineering also saw substantial gains, advancing to the Q2 quartile in both metallurgical engineering (ranked 30th globally) and metals science (ranked 41st). The journal's metallurgical engineering ranking rose 13 spots, propelling it from the Q3 to the Q2 category.
The WJCI report is known for its rigorous selection criteria, drawing from a pool of approximately 70,000 global scientific journals to feature only around 15,000 considered regionally or disciplinarily representative. The "Top Journal" distinction, reserved for those ranking in the top 5% of their discipline or the top three globally, highlights Tungsten's emergence as a leading voice in its field.
The results reflect JXUST's strategic focus on cultivating high-quality academic platforms in rare earth and critical minerals. The university intends to build on this momentum to further strengthen its international academic standing and core competitiveness in these strategic sectors.
